As Haylie is uploading a lot of fun stuff in the shop, I thought I'd tell you another way to use the lovely Glimmer Screens and Mists from Tattered Angels.

The screens are similar to TH's masks - which we all love - but are thicker and can that way be used together with structure paste, as I will show you now.

What you'll need:
Image

Cardstock
Structure Paste
Palette knife or similar
Glimmer Screen
Glimmer Mist
Non-permanent adhesive

Put adhesive on the back of the screen, and position it on the cardstock.

Image

Put on the structure paste using a palette knife.

Image

Take off the screen and let the paste dry. While doing that, remember to clean the screen and knife! Structure paste tends to stick if not removed immediately. I'm talking out of experience here...

Image

Once the paste has dried (you can speed it up with a heat gun or embossing gun, but be careful not to burn it), put the screen back in place.

Image

Time to spray on the Glimmer Mist! Take off the screen and clean it.

Once it has dried (do not try to speed it up, it will boil and make bubbles on the structure paste) your background is ready to be used!

Note: if you use Glimmer Mist directly on cardstock, chipboard or paper, you can speed up the drying time with a heat gun. It just doesn't work on the structure paste or other non-porous material.

I used my background paper for an LO with Kevin - and used the Compass Rose as he's trying to decide in which direction to go. I added a Game Spinner from TH as well.

Image

Off to the shop, girls, and get ready to try this fun technique!

I have not had much luck buying these, as the one time I did see them in real life, only the realy booring was left, and all the fun ones that was demonstrated was sold out. But they seem like something that I would like to have.

Elisabeth, I have several of the TA stencils and the paste. I was wondering...have you ever used the paste on a surface that the finished product can be removed from and used elsewhere? For instance, I want to make a snowflake with my stencils. Have you ever "lifted" the snowflake (example) off of the surface and used it somewhere else or do you use the stencil right where you want it placed?

Vicki, I have never tried that, but you surely gave me ideas here...

I would suggest that you try with polymer clay, and work on a non-stick baking sheet. Run the clay through a pasta machine if you have one (just use it for clay after this...) or make a thin sheet using a brayer, position it on the screen/stencil and roll the brayer over it to make it go down into the hole. Clean excess off and take the whole baking sheet and all to the oven. That would make a durable decoration.

Sounds like a great idea. Thanks. I was thinking of waxed paper instead of the baking sheet.

You can use Glimmer mist on almost every porous surface; paper, chipboard, wood... It even works on glossy paper, dressed chipboard and such, but takes somewhat longer to dry.

The relief paste can be found at most hobby stores, check out Michael's or HL. It might also be called cold embossing paste or structure paste. Anything that can be used for making structure for acrylic or oil painting will do!

I've used the putty with brass stencils but did not think to use it with the screens! Also, the light drywall putty works just as well and is super cheap for a large can. You have to get Lightweight Spackling. I use it and it works and takes paint and ink and mist, etc. I get it at the home improvement store and it's a nice big can for about what you pay for a small can of the stuff that's sold for stamping. Go figure. :groan1: However, I do not know if I would use it for scrapbooking or how it will hold up over time. I've only used it for cards.

Thanks, Gloria! I will take a trip out in the garage tomorrow. I bet there's a can of that stuff there! Otherwise I'll have to take a trip to nearest DIY store (I have 4 at walking distance), because I've used that small jar from the artist's shop already...

...and it looks lovely on canvases... :oops2:

Just make sure you get the light stuff. It's very "airy" and dries fast. Regular spackle or putty may not work...to wet and heavy.

I don't have any Glimmer Screens as yet, but do have a mini flourish one by Timmy H. and also his timeworks one (which I find way too large -it's better suited for 12" x 12" scrap pages!) Wish he would make some clocks in the mini size more suitable for cards and ATC's.

I like the snowflakes, icicles and trees Glimmer screens and they are on my wish list.
